It's Like Thunder. And Lightening.

I think we better "knock knock knock on wood."

We've been having these crazy rain/lightening storms here in Massachusetts lately. Every day for the past 2 weeks at some point in the day, the clouds roll in and everything will get really gray really fast and then the rain pours and the lighting comes. Then it clears up.

On one of these days, a week or so ago, right as it started to pour Mckinlay and I both looked out the window just in time to see lightening strike IN OUR PARKING LOT! It was so wild! We saw this flash of light and heard the "BOOM/CRACK" at the same time. Crazy!

Yesterday Emily pulled into our parking lot to drop Mckinlay and I off after another of these storms and this is what we found:
Lightening struck the tree! Luckily there were no cars parked in any of these spots. Fillmores, you are SO lucky you already moved! Can you imagine the damage that would have done to your car? Yikes.

So, whoever said lightening never strikes in the same place twice was wrong. Very wrong.

A visit from the Becks

Amber and Jordan stopped off in Boston for a few days to visit us on their way to New York. Amber and I have known each other since the Copper Rivet Days (has it really been almost 9 years!?). Back when I had all my high school/beginning of college drama and when she was dating/newly married to Jordan. Good times!
The first day we went to Plimoth Plantation. It was totally rainy and I will spare you the picture of us in our blessed blue "Plimoth" ponchos, but still fun, despite the rain...and not only because we went to Burdick's after.

Day two, we toured Fenway Park. Then they went off to see the sights down town.
Doesn't Mckinlay look like she could be their child?
Fenway still has some of the original ball park seats. Here is Mckinlay showing them off.
Thanks for coming out you guys! Who can resist good food, good friends and a good lightening storm? I won't mention how we almost died, and almost spilled our hot chocolate, in this place.

And thanks for the photos, which I unabashedly stole from your blog. :)

Strawberry Fields Forever

We went strawberry picking with some friends on Friday morning. Good thing we went early, otherwise I'm pretty sure we would have melted.
There really is nothing better than eating a warm, freshly picked strawberry. Ummmm.
Little strawberry shortcake over here sure had a good time picking and eating (Notice the strawberry juice on her shirt? She was covered by the time we were through.) every single strawberry in sight.
...Well, that is until she realized that she couldn't step over the strawberry bushes by herself which made it hard for her to be right next to me at all times. But who can resist this little cupcake. I mean seriously.

Thanks for the pictures Emily and Ginny (and thanks for inviting us!)!

*And good news loyal blog readers. Our broken camera woes are almost at an end. Our new camera should be here in time for our 4th of July festivities! And you know that means lots of pictures ahead.*

A new niece!

Tutu

My cousin just posted this photo of Grandma Tutu on his blog. She celebrated her 97th birthday last week. Wasn't she stunning?Tutu use to dance around the house with a smile and a twinkle in her eye.
She may not be dancing anymore--but her eyes still sparkle!

I'm so glad when Daddy comes home...

The Primary and Nursery kids in our ward made a video for Father's Day, which Kristal put together. She uploaded it to youtube so everyone who missed it could see it. It's pretty darn cute!

If you want to see Mckinlay go to 6:20ish and she blows a second kiss at 6:30ish.

Scooper Bowl 2008

Yeah, it's that time of year again. Today was a prefect day for it too. Not as hot as it has been, but still warm enough to want to eat a lot of ice cream. I think I'm sick now, but at least I know I got sick for a good cause.
Here's hoping Ty will be able to come with us next year before we move away. Anyone else want to come along?

*Sorry to not have pictures of Mckinlay covered in ice cream. Our camera is officially broken. Don't know exactly how I'm gonna manage with out it...Thanks Jimmy Fund website for the photos!

Thar be a lot o' pirating ahead!

Yo ho maties! It be that time o' year!
(The boots were all Mckinlay, although I think they added a nice touch.)We plundered. Or is it pillaged? ...Well, thar be a treasure hunt.
Side note: Our neighbors must think we are crazy with all the strange notes and signs that often end up on our front door.
This be the booty.Thar be a pirate tale.
(Next time anyone needs to buy Mckinlay a present, that book or this one would be so fun. Just FYI.)
Dress ups (of course).
And the sweetest wench this side o' the salty sea!
She freaked out when I put this tattoo on her. She was so mad that she couldn't take it off...until I showed it to her in the mirror. Then she couldn't stop giggling.

Sniff sniff...

Yesterday we had a going away party of the Fillmores. The theme was MAYO, since they are moving to Minnesota for Jonathan to do his oral surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic. We had a wide variety of foods, all of which include Mayonnaise! Mmmmmm.

We are so SO sad to be loosing our Fillmores! You couldn't ask for better neighbors or friends! We were playing games together last night and after Melanie finished building an artistic domino tower she asked how we liked it. Ty knocked it down with his foot and said "that's how I like it." See!? Now that's friendship! How many friends do you have that you can knock down their domino towers and they still love you?

Last night we got this great shot of Pauly, Mckinlay and their fingers. As I was uploading it to the computer today I went and looked back at some of the many photos they have together. It's been so fun watching these two grow up together. I just thought I'd share a few with you.
Their first photo:

Fun at the common:
One of many afternoons together:Sledding:
Apparently this is the hot spot of the apartment:
Dress up:
Who knows, maybe we'll end up at Mayo next year too. Then the photos can continue!?

This is one of my favorite Anna pictures:
This was taken right after we moved in. I can just hear her cute little voice saying "Can I try on your shoes and play with your jewelry Meghan?"

We love you Fillmys!! Thanks for being the Mertz to our Riccardo, the Rubble to our Flintstone, the Sunny to our Cher (well maybe not that one...). You are going to be so missed!!

Memorial Day Camping Trip

This weekend we fell in love with Vermont! It is so beautiful! We drove up to Sharon and camped at "Camp Joseph" (the church's campsite right next to Joseph Smith's birth place.). If you haven't been to Sharon before, we would recommend staying the night at the camp. You can stay in cabins or bring a tent, but DON"T FORGET THE BUG SPRAY!! And don't forget your baby pack. It's the cool thing to do.The camp site is only a 5 min, or so, walk from the birthplace memorial. Since we were one of the only groups at the memorial we got A LOT of personal attention. We got a tour of the Smith/Mac property in a golf cart. Luckily we didn't die because "It looks like the breaks are out" and we could have fallen into the "clear water." We also got the full length version of the indoor tour, even though we didn't hear a word of it for fear our kids were going to nock down the Jospeh Smith statues or get burnt in the fake fire place. :)
The grounds are so beautiful, both at the monument and the campsite. Mckinlay and Marcus had a lot of fun playing in the dirt. I tried so hard to get a picture of the two of them with their dirty faces, but no luck.
I couldn't get both of them to look at the camera. But I did get this sweet shot:
Looks like we really do have a budding romance on our hands.

We all had fun eating tin foil dinners, roasted corn (thanks for the butter Laura!) and bread sticks, roasted apples, smores...and the men made a fabulous breakfast! Kind of funny that we all the best homemade breakfast we have had in a long time, and we had it while camping. I played my first game of horseshoes and realized I'm not too bad at it! I got 2 ringers! I think Ty was so proud to have found a sport that I don't really stink at.

This is one of my favorite pictures from the weekend.

On our "way home" (actually it was an hour in the wrong direction, but well worth it) we stopped at the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory. They give tours of the plant and free ice cream samples. We of course stopped at the "scoop shop" and then visited the "flavor graveyard." It's the final resting place of all the retired flavors. Some only last 3 weeks on the market. Our votes for top three worst were:
1) Sugar Plum - Plum ice cream with a caramel swirl
2) Peanut Butter and Jelly - Peanut butter ice cream with peanut butter bits and jelly swirls
3) Sweet Potato Pie - Ginger ice cream with a fudge swirl
(I know I can't believe I posted this picture either. Talk about gross!)

Contrary to popular belief, our trip to Sharon wasn't an excuse to go to Ben & Jerry's. It just worked out nicely to see them both in one trip. :)
Mckinlay, was a champ traveler and was perfectly content to plug her ears on the car trip home. Apparently she didn't like the book we were listening to.
Thanks Spragues and Christophers for making the trip so fun! Next time we need to be sure to get a picture of all of us!

Mckinlay sized bag

Mckinlay is obsessed with my bags. I have to keep them zipped at all times or I will find my things scattered all over the house. I sewed a library bag a couple of weeks ago and that has become her new favorite bag to carry around. So, I decided it was high time to make her a bag of her own. I found the pattern in this lovely book.
She loves her little bag...but two bags are always better than one, right?
