Melted chips and melted hearts.

I have so many fond childhood memories of doing...Not scowling and sitting on the counter pantsless (which, for the record, I swear she owns pants), but memories of sitting on the counter eating cookie dough and brown sugar straight from the bowl. I think I did this just about every time I went to Grandma Hallstrom's house. And sometimes, if I was super lucky, she'd let me have a Maraschino cherry too!

I come from a family of food lovers. We plan vacations around where were going to eat. We make treats all the time. We have food traditions. If we don't have parsely on the Turkey tray at Thanksgiving, we look towards heaven and say "sorry Grandma." We have gallons of hot fudge in our food storage. I didn't know that most people didn't have dessert after dinner every day or that some people consider Jello a dessert and not a side dish with Sunday dinner.

I'm so glad I lived a sheltered life.

However, I didn't know that a rubber scraper wasn't really called a "cheater" until I was in the 9th grade. I blame you mom for my embarrassment that day in cooking class when I asked for someone to pass it to me.
It's so fun making memories like I had with my little dough snitcher. And by golly I'll teach her it's called a "cheater" too.
And I'll tell you another thing that's fun:
(It's the ONE good thing about Ty not being home.)

Mckinlay leaned her forehead against mine and whispered:
"i ove you."
Que heart melt.
I think she likes dinner while Daddy is away too.
Hee hee.

  3. this happens all too often at my house too. Brownies rarely get cooked!!! Ashlyn tastes just about anything in a mixing bowl too- even bread dough. Okay, I have a question. i am re-doing my blog header and putting a picture there, i edited the photo and put text on it so I could get it the way I wanted it. however, the blog requires a title and that gets in the way. What did you do? You don't have "what are they up to now..." on the top of your blog, but it is your title for you blog???? Help me.

  5. Mckinlay IS the poster child for irresistable kids. One thing Hawaii taught our family, everythinbg revolves around food -- especially chocolate food for McKinlays!
    Love ya, Love ya! Papio

  8. ..don't know what Dad is talking about...not a Hawaii thing or a McKinlay thing...this bespeaks pure HALLSTROM...however,he was smart enough to yeild to this early in our married life! Guess who just had a warm, fresh, fudge brownie (there may have been frosting and macnuts involved too)?! I did have a cold glass of milk with it, so got my calcium...and Vit C(which stands for chocolate...love ya Tutu)!...yes megs, it was in a paper cup and chilled in the freezer to be really cold (love ya Mom)!

  9. this post got me craving some cookie dough yesterday. so I made some and ate it! (I guess I made some cookies too) And now I think I'll have some brownies with milk after reading your moms comment. I wish you were in Utah. I'd invite myself to your house everyday.

  10. That's what we did on Monday, too!--except with raspberry cake instead of cookie dough! Our child-cheater wasn't good enough for Asher, though; he just stuck his head in the bowl and licked all the frosting out. I was so proud.
