Day 3:
Rockin' the "Melmo" pants.
I have heard rave reviews about this 3 day potty training method. A woman who calls herself the "Potty Training Queen" published an ebook about her methods (a friend sent it to me, but I believe you can get it here.). In a nut shell, you stay home for 3 days, cut out anything in your regular routine that would distract you from giving full attention to your child, throw away all the diapers in the house, follow your child around, give them LOTS of liquids and fibrous foods...all the while using a lot of positive reinforcement, trust, and rewards. It worked really well with Mckinlay and her personality.
Before starting, I thought I was going to go crazy by the end of day 3, but it has actually been, dare I say, a fun experience. Not the cleaning up "peepee" part, but spending so much one on one time with the little girlins (correct me, the big girlins) without other distractions. (But let the record show, if I never color another picture of Elmo again in my life, I'm completely fine with that.) And who can help but be excited by her face every time she heard the "peepee" or "poopoos" fall into the toilet!? As part of the training, she wore only a t-shirt and her big girl pants. Ty and I just couldn't get enough of her walking around on her tip toes with her little wedgied bum. So. Darn. Cute.
I'm so proud of how quickly she has taken to using the toilet. Knock on wood. Who knows what will happen as the novelty wears off, but if anything we're off to a great start.

I love that she is wearing a lion costume on the potty...is that part of the 3-day system?! This is one of those blogs you will have to bring up in 20+ years when she brings that special young man home and you pull out the scrapbooks/computer...on second thought, let's make it 30+ years!
ReplyDeleteWhat a big girl! I've found that lion costumes always make me want tinkle.
ReplyDeleteYEAH way to go on the potty training!! It is a lot of work but it sure pays off!! Love the lion costume!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I think I'll potty train Hannah just to see her cute wedgied butt! TOO CUTE! Thanks for the info on the book. As soon as my baby decides to stop screaming all the time, I tackle this.
ReplyDeleteOK, I love this post. Way to go Megs and McKinlay!
ReplyDeleteAnd the lion costume made my week!
Way to go- I think potty training is one of the biggest hurdles of mommy-hood. Sounds like she did great. My first one did good, my second, well, I wont' get into that!
ReplyDeleteHooray! All potty trained! Nice job Megs! She is so darling and I absolutely loved the pics!
ReplyDeleteno way. is she that old already?? Mckinlay smiles so good for the camera, by the way. I wish I could get rebecca to do that...
ReplyDeleteMegs!
ReplyDeleteI was always so relieved, so amazed and completely delighted when each one of the children became "potty trained." I honestly don't know with whom I was more pleased--me or the child! Congratulations on a job well done and congratulations to cute Mckinlay as well!
That's so great that she potty trained so well! I have a feeling we'll be gearing up to train Megan sometime in the next few months. We're just waiting for her speech therapy to progress far enough so that she can tell us when she has to go. Slightly essential. :) I love the cute pics, and I will definitely have to check out that ebook that you used!
ReplyDeleteBless your heart, I HATE potty training.
