Cupcakes anyone?

Yeah. You wish.

Mckinlay and I had the pleasure of spending the day with Erin yesterday! She was in town for a conference. We had a lot of fun strolling around down town.
We were walking down Newbury Street when we both spied "Johnny Cupcakes". Being as we are both Hallstroms, it was a natural stop and suddenly we had the overwhelming urge to eat a cupcake (or two, let's be honest here.) We walked in only to be disappointed. Not a cupcake in sight! You'd think it would be safe to infer they would have cupcakes being as the name of the shop is Johnny CUPCAKES. So misleading! You walk in to find a giant mixer and mixing bowl in the middle of the room, pastry display cases and cooling racks lining the walls--but they are all filled with T-Shirts and undies. How Rude! We did a quick survey of the room to make SURE there were no hidden treats and then quickly exited. We're sure the gal behind the counter could see the disappointment on our faces when we came in. I wonder how many times a day they get that? Erin and I are thinking of setting up a cupcake stand right outside their door to catch all the disappointed cupcake lovers who exit.

Although we did have one failed attempt at food bliss, we were in luck with our other choices. We went to Wagamamas at Faneuil Hall. I love that place! When I did my study abroad in London that was my favorite place to eat out. I was so excited when I heard it was crossing the pond and coming to Boston! And to satisfy our treat craving we went to Athan's. Thank you Athan's for never failing to disappoint.
I think Mckinlay found a new favorite person. Thanks for spending your extra day with us Erin! I hope it was more fun that you would have had exploring the wonders of Waltham, MA--even though we never did get our cupcakes. We love you!!
